| Scotty Newlands sings the National Anthem for Remembrance Day at the ACC
|
|
|
For 2 nights in a row, I was priviliged enough to sing the national anthems for Remembrance Day, and this game did not disappoint.
Though there weren't as many people in the ACC as there was for the Leaf game, the energy and emotion was still present. To be able to represent the Canadian Forces on Remembrance Day - despite the absense of any real Veterans in the opening ceremonies, was certainly an honour.
A different crowd - but Canadian all the same - everyone was truly appreciative and thanked me for my contribution. I pass those sentiments directly onto the men and women who have served before us and continue to do so domestically and overseas.
Thank you all...

It's going to be a busy week for Scotty at the ACC, as he's just been asked by the Toronto Raptors to sing the anthem for their Remembrance Day service. This is definitely the most important game of the year to sing at - as it is time to reflect on the brave men and women
who served both domestically and overseas. They fought for our freedom and many of them never returned home again. They fought and paid the
ultimate sacrifice so that we can be free.
This performance marks the 2nd time Scotty has sung for the Raptors. They face off against the Chicago Bulls. Tickets can be
purchased here.
It's sure to be a great game - c'mon out - show your support for the veterans and enjoy a great night of basketball!!
Hope to see you at the Air Canada Centre!!!

| Scotty Newlands sings the National Anthem for Remembrance Day at the ACC
|
|
|
I don't know what to say about this event - only that it was truly the most special time I've ever performed the anthem at the ACC.
The energy that I felt from the crowd was undescribable. For those 2 minutes that I was singing - everyone in the arena was connected as one and truly lived and breathed the sentiments of those powerful words. It was such an honour to be the one leading everybody in the singing of the national anthems and I will treasure that moment for the rest of my life.
It truly made me proud to be a Canadian.
Thank you to everyone who made this such a memorable night and certainly showed their respect and love for the Veterans.
We will not forget...

| Scotty Newlands - Plays JINX In Forever Plaid
|
|
|
It's time to re-visit the theatre!
After a somewhat lengthy hiatus, Scotty will be returning to the stage. This time, in Class Act's production of Forever Plaid.
This charming story about 4 young men - who's singing career is tragically cut short when their car gets struck by a bus - has been played the continent over. Making it's first debut on Broadway in the early 90's, the show takes the audience on a stroll down memory lane, as the 4-men cast sing pop songs from the 1950's as part of their "final concert".
The foursome has been sent back to earth from heaven to perform their big concert - which they were never able to do in their living years. They were enroute to do the concert when their lives were instantly cut short. For more information on the show itself, please see here.
Scotty will be playing the role of Jinx a young man who by day - worked in an autoparts store but at night - became the upper tenor of the group. He was shy and lacked the self confidence he desperately needed to come out of his shell. Perhaps in death he will finally be able to overcome his inner demons and realize his full potential as a performer.
The other 3 members of the cast are:
- Peter Bocking - SPARKY
- Bryan Chamberlain - FRANCIS (FRANKY)
- Kyle Bentley - SMUDGE
The show is certain to be a great time for everyone in attendance. Being a dinner theatre - you are treated to a fantastic meal prior to the show - and audience participation is encouraged.

| Scotty Newlands - Sings the Anthem for a Charity Hockey Game
|
|
|
What a fun night!
It was great to be asked by friends and comerades at LFCA Training Centre Meaford to sing the anthem for a charity hockey game between the Army Team and members from Owen Sound's 94.5 The BULL FM. Everyone had a great time both on the ice and off.
The event took place at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre - the home of Owen Sound's OHL team The Attack and was arranged to raise money for the Sapper Mike McTeague Wounded Warriors Fund - an incredibly beneficial charity which assists those soldiers who are injured in the line of duty. For more information on the specifics of the charity click here.
Special VIPs in attendance were - "The Great one's" father - Walter Gretzky, Toronto Maple Leafs Hall of Famer - Ron Ellis and the host of TSN's "That's Hockey" - Gino Reda. All three men took part in the ceremonial puck drop before the game - it was quite an event for the community of Owen Sound!
ALthough it was a public event - most of the attendees were members of the military.
The night started off with regular hockey play - but by the end - it looked more like a Three Stooges routine! There was some real hockey and great plays - but the all in all in was a fun event to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
I was happy to play a part in this event and I thank both LFCATC Meaford and the community of Owen Sound for allowing me to open the game.
Until next time...

| Scotty Newlands - "NEW ROADS" Official CD Release 2009
|
|
|
All I can say - is THANK YOU!
It was a good turn out - considering the weather - and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had great food - full bar service and a everyone (both civilians and military) mingled and met each other. Everyone looked great! It was certainly a formal "dressy" affair for everyone!
I did perform a few songs from the album and a couple of my favourite "cover tunes". Everyone was really supportive and some even sang along.
My good friends from Starlazer Entertainment supplied the sound for the evening - and they went all out! The Officers' Mess at Denison Armoury was transformed into a full-out formal performance hall. The room sounded great and everyone was a buzz about the entire event!
When the time came to shut things down, I had to boot people out - that was a good sign!!
The only downside is a personal one. As most people know, I suffered a collapsed lung early last Tuesday. As a result, It made performing somewhat laboured - but I wasn't going to let anything stop me! Everyone fully understood and I did the best that I could - given my situation. Overall, I think everything went alright and although I was in a bit of pain - my sound didn't suffer too much.
A few albums we sold and I was able to raise a decent amount for the "Support Our Troops" Campaign. That certainly made me happy.
I couldn't have asked for a better venue and a better group of comrades, subordinates, co-workers and friends. I am truly blessed to have the support from all facets of my life.
Thank you to everyone who made this such a special night!!!
