| "I Remember Mama" - The
Family Musical
|
|
|
It's
official - I'm in another musical! This time, I will be taking part in
the Civic Light Opera Company's production of "I
Remember Mama". This is a charming by Thomas Meehan story about a
Norwegian family living in San Fransisco at the turn of the century. The
play centres around Mama and her detailed, meticulous home budget. It
follows the Hansens throughout all of their joys, sorrows and
aspirations.
With music by Richard Rodgers and Lyrics by Martin Charnin, it is a
great piece of musical theatre for the whole family.
I will be playing Peter Thorkelson - an undertaker. It's a
complete shift in character from Harold Bride or Hero! One
thing is for sure - if Joe Cascone is directing it, it's gonna be a
great show!
To the right, is a link to the promotional poster for the show. Feel
free to print it out for your own enjoyment and use.
This a limited engagement running from the 21st of December to the 6th
of January. Tickets can be purchased online for your
convenience. I certainly hope you get the chance to see this show and I
again look forward to seeing you in the audience.
Hope to see you there!

| Scotty Newlands Sings
the Anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs
|
|
|
Watching it all again on tape is a real experience. To have been
privilaged enough to have the esteemed honour of singing the national
anthem on the most important day for the Cdn Forces. I was truly
honoured to have been able to share the ice with the hockey greats as
well as the proud and deserving veterans of past wars and current
operations.
A special thanks to Don Cherry and Ron MacLean for their wonderful
tribute during Coach's Corner - it brought tears to my eyes and I felt a
lump in my throat.
My thanks to everyone in the Maple Leafs organization as well as
Veterans Affairs Canada and LFCA Headquarters for making this monumental
event a reality. My heartfelt wishes and prayers go out to the brave men
and women who continue to serve in campaigns overseas. God bless you all
and keep you safe.
Thanks again Canada!

Opportunities to represent the CF keep presenting themselves.
This time I have the privilage to sing for the Toronto Maple Leaf game
on Rememberance Day. This is by far the most important day in the Cdn
Forces calendar and being able to represent the CF for this event is
truly monumental and honouring.
I hope that people can make it out to this match between Toronto and
Montreal and honour our veterans at the same time.
Hope to see you there!!

A special thanks to everyone
who made this event such a success! It was great to be able to perform a
few tunes for the veterans and see the look on thier faces as they lit
up with joy and happiness. This was by far one of the most rewarding
performances I have been able to be a part of. Thanks to the staff of
Sunnybrook Hospital - Veteran's Wing for all of their hard work and
effort in making this event possible. The Vets enjoyed it and I
certainly did!
Thank you all!

I have been asked to perform a few classics for the Veterans of
Sunnybrook Hospital as part of their Remeberance Day/Week festivities. I
will be joined by members of the George Hees Wing for an unveiling of a
poster - commemmorating and honouring Veterans from the various
campaigns.
It's going to be a great afternoon of entertainment and rememberance -
and most of all - a chance for the Veterans to get the recognition they
surely deserve.

| Scotty Newlands Sings
the National Anthem at Argos Game
|
|
|
Thanks to everyone who came to
the game. It was really nice to see the same support for this occasion
as the Jays - both military and civilian! I am thankful to the Argos
Association and the Cdn Forces for allowing me to sing the anthem for
the game and I look forward to being able to do this again soon!
Thank you all!

Well, everyone in the CF and the Blue Jays Association seemed
pretty happy with my performance of the
national anthems at the Rogers Centre back in June. As a result, I have
been asked to sing again for the Toronto Argonauts
game on the 28th of October for another CF appreciation event.
Toronto faces off against the Montreal Alouettes. Lets give them all our
support as we continue
to support the efforts of the brave men and women overseas.
Hope to see you there!!

The gig at the CNE was great!
People were really enthusiastic and seemed to enjoy the show. The
weather was really cooperative for the event and everyone was in great
spirits. Thanks to the CNE and Tim Hortons for organizing this
gig. The free coffee and donuts was a hit and everyone was able to get
something to start their day. A special thanks goes out to Hugo Straney
for allowing me to take part in his show. He's a great performer and
host and I hope that I can work with him in the future. Pictures are
posted in the gallery.
See you next time!

So, it's official! I've been
asked to sing at the CNE this year as part of a military display and
appreciation initiative. "Support Our Troops" is
a campaign which is being launched to do just that - support the brave
men and women overseas who defend our freedom everyday. There will be a
number of interactive events and displays for people to take part in.
The CNE, in association with Tim Horton's will be holding a Seniors
Breakfast on the 24th and 31 of August and I will be entertaining
patrons with a few classic tunes along with event host and renound Irish
performer Hugo Straney. I'll be in my full dress uniform to fully outfit
the role!
It should be a great event! The show runs from 10am until 12pm beside
the CNE Bandshell. I will also be taking part in a composite band which
will perform every evening that the CNE runs - so look for me with my
clarinet in hand!
Come on out, grab a coffee and get a good start to your day at the EX!
Hope to see you there!

The performance at the Royal
York went over very well! Everyone enjoyed the show and really got into
the music! The room had fantastic acoustics and the staff was really
helpful. A special thanks to everyone at the Royal York and especially
to
the officers of the Grand Lodge for allowing me to perform for them and
all in attendance. I hope that I can do something there again in the
future!
Take care!

I've been asked by the
Ontario Masonic Grand Lodge to entertain members at their annual meeting
which is being held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. I will be there
for 2 nights to perform a number of standard tunes plus a few of my
own works. I am really happy to be able to do this for the Grand Lodge -
it's going to be a great event.

National Anthems at Rogers Centre
|

Hey there! Thanks to everyone
who came to the game. It was really nice to see the support for this
occasion - both military and civilian! It was a true honour to perform
the anthems in full dress uniform and
I am very thankful to the Blue Jays Association and the Cdn Forces for
allowing me this great opportunity. I hope that I am able to do
something like this again in the future.
Thank you all!

I have been chosen as the
Canadian Forces representative to sing the Canadian and American
National Anthems at the Blue Jays game held at the Rogers
Centre on the afternoon of May 27, 2006.
This is in support of Canadian Forces Appreciation Day as a way to
honour our troops past and present who protect the country and help
those people in other nations against oppression and terrorism in the
world.
I will be part of the opening ceremonies, which include presentations to
deserving military personnel as well as a full flag party. I am really
looking forward to this event - not only as an opportunity to sing for
the nation, but
as a small way to honour the brave men and women of our Canadian Forces.
It is my hope that you can make it out to this game - enjoy a great day
of baseball and support our troops all at the same time!
The Toronto Blue Jays will face off against the Chicago White Sox in
their 2nd of 3 consecutive games.
Hope to see you there!

On The Way To The Forum

|
|
Well, another great production
comes to a close! I had a great time doing this show.
Thanks to everyone who came to see the play. The music, the cast, the
story - all fantastic! It really was a great way to end
off the CLOC performing season. The
cast, crew and orchestra were such a great bunch of people to work with
and I will remember this experience for the rest of my life!
Although I am sad to see this show come to an end, I am glad to finally
have a break to get myself back in shape, give my voice a breather for a
little while and get back to working on my music. Thanks for all the
support, and a special thanks to Joe Cascone and everyone at Civic Light
Opera Company for inviting me with such open arms!
..........until next season!

Well, it's that time again -
time for another musical from
The Civic Light Opera Company!
Because of my performance in TITANIC, I was asked to be in the
next performance.
This show is completely contrasting in nature from TITANIC and as such -
will be a great change up for me! From the creative minds of Stephen
Sondheim and Barry Shevelove come one of Broadway's
most enjoyable comedies: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE
FORUM. I will be playing the role of HERO, a naive young man
in search of his true love. This is going to be
a great show - full of singing and truly comical characters getting
themselves into all sorts of predicaments. Nothing is serious, but
everything is entertaining!
This a limited engagement running from the 25th of May to the 11th of
June. To the right, is a link to the promotional poster I designed for
the show.
Feel free to print it out for your own enjoyment and use. The play is in
high demand and many performances are already sold out. Tickets can be
purchased
online for your
convenience. I certainly hope you get the chance to see this great piece
of theatre and
I again look forward to seeing you in the audience.
See you in the FORUM!

Musical

Hey there! Thanks to everyone
who came to see the play. It was an incredible journey and I was
honoured to be a part of it.
The cast, crew and orchestra were such a great bunch of people to work
with and I will remember this experience for the rest of my life!
It's going to take a while to come down from this fantastic production
but I look forward to the next one
..........see you at the theatre!

Happy New Year
everyone!!!
So I'm keeping busy with work and time in the studio. I am also keeping
busy with rehearsals for a musical. I am playing the role of the
Wireless
Operator - Harold Bride in
The Civic Light Opera Company
production of
TITANIC.
It's a fantastic opportunity for me to play a meaningful character in
this incredible award winning Broadway production.
It depicts an artistic account of the events that unfolded during the
fateful maiden voyage of this famous tragic
liner - presented in a highly entertaining, musical and theatrical
format. The cast and characters are all unique and
work hard to represent and pay hommage to the famous passengers whom
they are based upon. The music is touching and uplifitng
and the storyline is very well-written.
This a limited engagement running from the 2nd to the 18th of February.
To the right, is a link to the promotional poster I designed for the
show.
Feel free to print it out for your own enjoyment and use. The play is in
high demand and many performances are already sold out. Tickets can be
purchased
online for your
convenience. I certainly hope you get the chance to see this great piece
of theatre and
I look forward to seeing you in the audience.
Enjoy the show!
